Credit card interest rates are mandatory for lenders. After all, you are borrowing someone else\u2019s money, so paying that back with interest keeps them making a profit. (And hopefully, the owner from borrowing beyond their means.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lendingtree.com\/credit-cards\/study\/credit-card-debt-statistics\/#:~:text=What%20about%20new%20credit%20card,tracking%20rates%20monthly%20in%202019.\">LendingTree reports<\/a> that U.S. cardholders&#8217; average credit card interest rate <strong>is 24.71%<\/strong>. Since interest rates have been tracked among lenders, that national average is the highest since 2019. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/articles\/01\/061301.asp#:~:text=If%20you%20carry%20a%20balance,daily%20rate%20would%20be%200.044%25.\">Investopedia explains<\/a> credit card interest rates like this:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>If you carry a balance on your credit card, the card company multiples it daily by a daily interest rate and adds that to what you owe. The daily interest rate is your APR divided by 365. For example, if your card has an APR of 16%, the daily rate would be 0.044%<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, if you don\u2019t pay off your credit card or make revolving monthly payments, your interest rates will make what you owe grow quickly. The lender sets the amount, so rates can vary from card to card and organization to organization. That variety among lenders can bode well for the borrower. Yet, most Americans have firm beliefs about credit cards that benefit the lender.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/en-us\/majority-americans-value-their-credit-card-rewards#:~:text=About%20half%20(45%25)%20use,manage%20their%20budgets%20(25%25).\">Ipsos Consumer Tracker found<\/a> these analytics among the reasons why U.S. cardholders need or want a credit card or to explain their behaviors with one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>71%<\/strong> have a credit card with rewards, points, or a cashback system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>69%<\/strong> of younger Americans (below the age of 35) say they\u2019re necessary to build and improve credit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>45%<\/strong> have them for the convenience of shopping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>37% <\/strong>would not buy so much if they didn\u2019t have accrued rewards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>35% <\/strong>think they spend more because of their credit cards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>25%<\/strong> own a credit card to help manage their budgets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>23%<\/strong> say they have a credit card for emergencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>How consumers feel having a credit card is about as diverse as the interest rates accompanying them. Credit card organizations are like any other business because they serve customers. The next time calling customer service, consider asking for additional credit or a lower interest rate. Both will positively affect your credit score or ranking as a customer in good standing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Know the Math<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although a credit card balance is nothing but numbers, there is some math you should know to be a more savvy customer. In the lender&#8217;s eyes, the key to being a \u201cresponsible user\u201d is using the full amount of credit you are provided. The best percentage is having up to 30% of what is allotted as revolving credit.
