We interviewed Latia \u2014 gamer, bookworm, and TV lover \u2014 to learn how she found her way out of more than $13,000 of debt \u2014 and into a new life filled with savings, a renovated home, and a luxury car she never thought she could afford. Most importantly, she\u2019s giving her kids the financial education she wishes she\u2019d had.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Can you tell us a bit about yourself?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    I live with my kids and extended family and I work for the electric company here as lead analyst in rate design. My husband works in New York City, so we live separately for practical reasons, but we\u2019re very much together and in love. It works for us!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My sister and I live in a home we bought together with my parents. And actually, she joined Beyond Finance too \u2014 I referred her. She\u2019s just about to graduate from the program herself. It\u2019s been a real journey for both of us.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    How did you find yourself in debt?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    I was a single mom at the time, and while my son’s dad was contributing financially at first, he lost his job. Suddenly, I was responsible for everything \u2014 daycare, food, school clothes \u2014 and I was doing it all on one income.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I was using credit cards just to survive. Daycare alone was $150 a week. I was buying food on credit, clothes on credit. Before I knew it, I was $13,000 in debt.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My payment history was 100%. But my utilization was over 99%. And eventually, I realized: I\u2019m not going to get out of this cycle unless I make a change.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    How did you find Beyond Finance and what was your experience like with us?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    I talked with a coworker who had gone through the program, and she now had three properties, was financially secure, and working because she wanted to, not because she had to. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I was skeptical at first \u2014 I had never heard of Beyond. But she gave me her whole story. She showed me proof. And that\u2019s when I decided to take a chance. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I don\u2019t remember the name of the first Beyond rep I spoke to, but I\u2019ll never forget his voice. He said, \u201cMy job is to help you \u2014 not sell you something.\u201d That resonated with me. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I was looking for a release from the stress, and he gave me hope. That was all I needed to say \u2018yes.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    I was paying over $400\u2013$500 a month just trying to make minimum payments. With Beyond, I was paying $235 a month total.*<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It was nerve-wracking at first, but when I paid off my first account, I went out and had a drink to celebrate! I got the email, and I called them to ask, \u201cIs this real?\u201d I logged into the Beyond app and saw the balance at zero. I was like \u2014 this is really happening.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What was graduating like and what\u2019s happened since?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    It felt like there should\u2019ve been a ceremony! I got that final email, \u201cCongratulations, you\u2019re done,\u201d and I just thought, \u201cWow, I made it!\u201d I even told Beyond, we need a virtual graduation \u2014 let us celebrate together. <\/em>(laughs) It was an amazing feeling.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I went to Mexico \u2014 paid in cash. I\u2019m doing two vacations a year now, because I understand how to budget!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I got a new car \u2014 a 2025 Lexus RX 350. Tier one credit, no money down, great interest rate! They ran my credit and were like, \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d I couldn\u2019t believe it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I also redid my whole living space. Over the years I saved up and turned it into a proper apartment. New floors, and I had a kitchen installed. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    My financial habits have absolutely changed. Even though the debt wasn\u2019t totally my fault, I still look back and see some things I could\u2019ve avoided \u2014 like buying a $3,000 couch when I didn\u2019t need to. But that\u2019s hindsight. Now I know better.  <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I plan for things. I budget monthly, even for vacations. I know about utilization now. I ask questions about APR. I didn\u2019t know any of that before.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The house I\u2019m in belongs to me, my parents, and my sister, and now I want to buy a vacation home. It\u2019s generational wealth \u2014 something my kids can inherit. Eventually, maybe we\u2019ll buy more. I want to build income streams and keep growing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
