How Danielle Got Into Debt

There were many issues that drove me into debt but being a single mother was honestly the biggest reason. I had all of the financial responsibility on my shoulders and I simply couldn’t keep up with the monthly demands.

Over the years life threw Danielle more than her fair share of challenges. In addition to supporting her household on a single income, an unexpected  $15,000 sewer line repair and time off work when she was diagnosed with cancer put her over the edge. For months, credit cards became the only lifeline. The result was nearly $20,000 in debt and a heavy emotional toll.

I became very depressed. I wouldn’t go out and do things I normally would enjoy for fear that they would cost money I didn’t have,” she recalled. “My sleep was affected, my health impacted along with my personal relationships suffering. I was so unhappy and felt like there wasn’t a way out of this crushing cycle.

Recognizing the Need for Help

One quiet moment at home became a turning point. “I was sitting at my kitchen table going over what I could pay and how. I was already working overtime in my demanding job and considered a second job but I would have no work/life balance. I realized then I was just existing, not living. That’s when I knew I had to change.”

So when she came across an ad from Beyond Finance, she picked up the phone. “I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to call and speak to someone.”

Turning Things Around With Beyond Finance

The call changed everything. “At first, I was embarrassed. I never had spoken about how bad my situation was with anyone,” Danielle admitted.

After a few reassuring moments, I felt relief. Even before the program started, I knew based on the call that it was the best gift I could give myself. I’m now on track to complete the program within the time stated.

That feeling has lasted throughout her journey with Beyond so far. “Everyone has been so friendly and eager to answer any questions,” she said.

Caroline’s Message to Others: You Don’t Have to “Wake Up With Dread”

Danielle is now saving $461 each month on her eligible monthly payments and wants others who feel overwhelmed to know they’re not alone.

I would ask them if they wake up with dread every morning knowing they cannot pay all of their bills and live life. If you feel this way, Beyond can help make everyday existence so much more bearable.

A Clean Slate and a Hopeful Tomorrow

Today, Danielle is working toward a life filled with optimism again.

I am looking forward to a clean slate. Never allowing myself to go back to the place I had been with all of the debt. I look forward to being the happy old me. The optimist. The one who celebrates the little things.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that even in the busiest, most burdened seasons of life, a path to freedom is possible — with the right support and a single, brave first step.

*A quick note about Danielle’s story: She’s a real client who was compensated for taking the time to share her experience with us.
