Graduate Exclusive! Heather & Robert T. Buy Their Dream Victorian Home and Acres of Land

We interviewed Heather — music lover, gamer, and reader — to find out about her and her husband’s journey through debt and how they more than landed on their feet.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and Robert?

Robert and I live with our four dogs — Quinn, Captain, Willow, and Max. We take walks around our property — we have a couple acres in the country now, and it’s beautiful.

He works for a company that does 0% medical financing with hospitals and clinics. He loves it — he’s helping other people stay out of debt!

I’m going back to school — I had started studying Psychology back in 2005, but I had a lot of health stuff happen that shelved me for quite some time. With new treatments, I’m finally at a point where I can look at doing that again.

You made it possible for us to be where we love, in the house we love, and to start looking forward again — to things like going back to school and just enjoying life.

How did you find yourself in debt?

The big one was my medical situation. Insurance only covers so much, and a lot of the treatments and procedures had ridiculous copays upfront. Then there were surprise moving expenses when we moved from Texas to Arizona.

We also had two dogs with medical issues. It was just a combination of trying to keep up with everything at once, and it got out of hand.

It was definitely stressful, especially since I wasn’t able to be working. We were constantly worrying — about affording our dogs’ insulin, my medications, just everything.

We thought we’d never be able to buy a house or have the kind of space we wanted. It weighed on us a lot. It got to the point where even making minimum payments wasn’t helping. We had things maxed out, trying to buy groceries and cover medical needs.

What was your experience like with Beyond Finance?

Since Robert’s worked in finance, he had heard about Beyond Finance — either from someone he worked with or through conversation. We talked about it and decided to give you a call.

The person we talked to was very confident in what they could accomplish for us. They knew what they were talking about and made it clear this wasn’t about selling something — they genuinely wanted to help.

Robert and I looked at each other and said, “Yeah, let’s do it.” It didn’t feel like a sales pitch; it felt like someone taking an active interest in helping our situation.

When we hung up, it was the first time we felt a little hope. Like we could breathe.

And when we paid off our first account — That was a celebration! It really proved we made the right decision. Every time one was paid off, it felt like taking a little more weight off the scale.

I don’t remember the exact number of how much you lowered our payments by, but I know it was at least by half. It changed everything and quickly.

We were able to move into a house — we worked with a company where you get pre-approved, the company buys the house, and you rent it while a portion of what you pay is set aside so you can buy the house from the company in two years if you want to. After two years we were able to finance it officially.

What was it like when you graduated?

That was the scale completely tipping the other way — we could finally breathe.

The biggest difference we noticed — just aside from not having so much crushing pressure of debt every day — is [paying off debt] over that course of time and building the credit back up basically is what helped us achieve our 21-year dream of moving to the country and buying our [new] house that we love and where we want to stay.

Some people worry that doing a Beyond Finance program will make it difficult to purchase a home. Was that your experience?

No, I think it’s the opposite. It helps tremendously.

What’s life like now that you’re debt-free?

We just moved to our new place at the end of June. It was built in 1870, but it’s in perfect condition. We’ve both felt more at peace — we finally live where we’ve always wanted to be, surrounded by nature. We’ve started hiking, and we just love it here.

And we’re able to do things we couldn’t before — like take little weekend trips or splurge on a nice seafood dinner once a month.

We can spoil our dogs more, and we don’t have to worry constantly about where the money’s coming from.

Beyond Finance just flipped the scale — from crushing weight to freedom. It helped us pay off everything and achieve our lifelong goal. You made it possible for us to be where we love, in the house we love, and to start looking forward again — to things like going back to school and just enjoying life.
